College essay ideas: conducting your own research

Being in college can be about fun and freedom, but sometimes it is also about learning to bear the responsibility of your own actions. Sometimes it is about hard work and about putting a lot of effort into the things you like doing. Sometimes, college is about learning how to deal with deadlines, tight schedules and time management as well.

Like it or not, college essays will be part of your life for the years you study here and you will have to give your best into delivering your professors with the very best essays possible. While writing an essay should not feel very difficult to do, there are things you will always have to bear in mind regarding to it. One of these things is that you will absolutely need to do some proper research because this is precisely what will add some “meat” and credibility upon your essay writing.

How to Conduct a College Essay Research

If you have never done a research before (or if you have never done it properly as well) it will feel a bit confusing and scary to do it now. However, doing a bit of research should not be something to terrify you and, as you will find out by the end of your college studies, you will actually learn to like it sometimes, especially when the topic on which you are doing this research is actually interesting to you. When it comes to conducting an essay research (or any other type of research for that matter), keep in mind a few things:

  1. Start early. Even if your essay has to have 1000 words only, you should start as early as possible and to manage your time well. Doing everything “the night before” will lead to an incomplete research (and an incomplete work in general).
  2. Organize your bibliography carefully. Many times, students waste a lot of time because they have not organized their resources properly and because they have to spend a lot of time to look for the references once again. Make sure you don’t fall into this trap! Use stick-its, markers and bookmarks and organize everything thoroughly!
  3. Be very careful about the resources you use. Go for important names and important books, avoid using online “encyclopedias” and avoid obscure titles and ideas. They will only ruin your essay’s credibility!
  4. If you need help, ask for it. Friends can help you and there are many online professional academic writing service providers who specialized in helping students with their academic writing. Use these services wisely and you will only reap their benefits!
